MaxYoung-2021-SAGIT-Funding-Applications

THE South Australian Grain Industry Trust is now accepting applications for its 2021 project funding grants.

SAGIT Chairman Max Young said any individual, research organisation or grower group with a relevant project is encouraged to apply.

“We are always keen to receive applications from any individual or research group with a plan to help improve the State’s grain industry,” he said.

“This call for applications offers researchers the chance to enhance the productivity and resilience of our cropping sector.”

SAGIT invests an average of $1.8 million per year to support research that specifically benefits the SA grain industry. The funds are raised from a voluntary contribution from SA growers of 30 cents per tonne of grain delivered, which enjoys wide support.

“The voluntary SAGIT levy is very well accepted by SA growers,” Mr Young says.

“Local producers clearly see the importance of research that is specific to local needs and growing conditions.”

Past research projects have provided valuable insights in areas as diverse as time of sowing in various districts, optimising on-farm grain storage for SA conditions, and quantifying the cost-benefit of new harvest weed seed control equipment.

New funding applications must be received by Friday, 5 February 2021 to be considered.

The SAGIT team will review submitted applications during February and early March and applicants will be notified of the results in late March.

All relevant application guidelines and forms can be found on the SAGIT website under ‘Apply for funding’.

To discuss project concepts and plans before submission, or enquire about the application process, please contact SAGIT Project Manager Malcolm Buckby on 0417 722 231 or SAGIT Scientific Officer Jenny Davidson on 0429 695 505.
