SAGCO Call for Applications

APPLICATIONS are now open for the South Australian Grain Industry Trust’s 2020 round of funding for research projects to further improve the SA grain industry.

SAGIT Chairman Max Young encourages all interested researchers and grower groups to apply, with an open call ensuring all applications are considered by management and the trustees.

“The call for funding gives researchers and grower groups the opportunity to investigate gaps in SA grain research and the main issues holding back productivity,” he said.

“Some of these ideas may have the capacity to revolutionise grain businesses.”

Funding has previously been provided to research projects in a range of areas including grain growing, farming systems, soil management, harvesting, storage, processing and marketing, and results from these studies are disseminated to the grain industry.

SAGIT invests an average of $1.8 million per year in supporting research crucial to advancing the SA grain industry. The trust is funded by a 30 cents per tonne voluntary contribution on all grain delivered by SA grain growers.

“SAGIT’s research and development is supported by SA growers, so it’s important that these funds work on providing solutions and tools to tackle current industry issues,” Mr Young said.

“With farming constantly evolving and becoming increasingly complex, it is important to stay at the forefront of this change, with the help of R&D, to ensure South Australian grain businesses continue to progress.”

Applications for project funding are due on Friday, January 31 and the SAGIT committee will review submitted applications during February and early March. Applicants will be notified of the results of the review in March.
