Hart advanced cropping systems and stubble handling (H113)

The Hart long-term cropping systems trial was upgraded in this research period to include stripper-front harvesting with disc seeding. A second site looked at the stubble handling ability of these seeding systems at different stubble heights. Seeding systems were compared across lentils, barley and wheat, with pre-emergent herbicides also included in the cereals.

Seed to Store You Tube clip competition (AC115)

The second year of the Seed to Store YouTube clip competition ran complementary to the Royal Adelaide Show’s prize schedule and called on Australians to develop a short video clip promoting grains. 26 entries were received with the majority from secondary schools. Additionally, more than 1000 school students were visited by the team to highlight innovation and careers in the grains industry.

Evaluating clethodim tolerance in canola (S0713)

This research has shown that clethodim can severely impact the growth, development and grain yield of canola. These effects are amplified with increasing herbicide rates and applications at later canola growth stages. Not all canola varieties are affected to the same degree.

This trip enabled visits to research groups at Texas A&M University, Limagrain Cereal Seeds (LCS) in Colorado and the CIMMYT research centre, Mexico. Industry and research links have been developed which will be beneficial to future research and study outputs.
