Rethinking K: site-specific strategies for southern cropping areas (AGX2226)

START

July 1, 2026

FINISH

June 30, 2028

Summary

The overall goal is to develop practical, site-specific potassium (K) fertiliser management guidelines for high-rainfall cropping systems in the Upper South East, focusing on the limestone-loam soils in the region. Current knowledge gaps include the unreliability of potassium sufficiency thresholds, with soils testing as “adequate” (Colwell K >150 mg/kg) still exhibiting deficiency symptoms and yield losses. Research on K dynamics in limestone-loam soils remains limited at this time.
